Purpose
WAR.DIRECT is a non-commercial, public-interest information tool built during a time of active conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. It was co-created by Rishi Khiani and Claude (by Anthropic) with a single goal: to make real-time conflict information freely accessible to everyone — especially those directly affected.
We believe that in times of crisis, information should be available to all, not locked behind paywalls or scattered across dozens of sources. This platform exists to aggregate, organize, and present publicly available data in a way that is genuinely useful.
Non-Commercial Use
This platform is provided entirely free of charge. We do not run advertisements, collect user data for commercial purposes, or seek to profit from this project in any way. There are no subscriptions, premium tiers, or monetization mechanisms of any kind.
Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) Classification
WAR.DIRECT operates exclusively as an open-source intelligence (OSINT) aggregation platform. This means:
- No classified, confidential, or leaked material is used, hosted, or referenced on this platform — under any circumstances
- All data is sourced from publicly available, openly accessible sources that any member of the public can access
- We do not engage in hacking, interception, or unauthorized access to obtain information
- We do not maintain relationships with intelligence agencies, military organizations, or government entities of any nation
- Strike and event data is extracted from published news reports by established international media organizations, not from military or classified sources
This approach is consistent with established OSINT practices used by organizations such as Bellingcat, Liveuamap, ACLED, and the International Crisis Group — all of which aggregate publicly available conflict data for public-interest purposes.
Content Sources
All content on this platform is aggregated from publicly available sources, including but not limited to:
- Live TV streams sourced from publicly accessible HLS endpoints and open-source repositories on GitHub
- News articles pulled via public RSS feeds from major international news organizations (Al Jazeera, BBC, CNN, Reuters, France24, The Guardian, Times of Israel, Middle East Eye, DW, and others)
- Flight data from publicly available aviation tracking APIs (ADS-B Exchange / adsb.lol)
- Maritime vessel data from publicly available ship tracking sources
- Social media dispatches from public Reddit posts and discussions
- Strike/attack data manually curated and cross-verified against multiple published news reports
We do not claim ownership of any third-party content. All news articles link back to their original sources. TV streams are publicly broadcast and freely available online.
Editorial Independence & Neutrality
WAR.DIRECT is an independent, non-partisan project. We are:
- Not affiliated with, funded by, or directed by any government, military, political party, or advocacy organization
- Not advocating for any side in the conflict
- Not seeking to influence military operations, political outcomes, or diplomatic negotiations
- Presenting information from all sides of the conflict as reported by international media
Our sole objective is to make publicly available information more accessible and organized for civilians, journalists, researchers, and humanitarian workers.
AI-Generated Content
Portions of this platform use artificial intelligence for content processing:
- Intelligence briefs are generated by AI (GPT-4o) based on aggregated news reports and are clearly labeled as AI-generated analysis
- News summaries may be AI-assisted for brevity
- AI-generated content reflects a synthesis of published reporting — it does not constitute original intelligence, military analysis, or strategic assessment
AI systems can produce errors, hallucinations, or outdated information. AI-generated content should not be treated as authoritative reporting.
Citizen Voices & User-Generated Content
The "Voices from Inside the War" feature allows users to submit audio recordings from conflict-affected areas. Important disclosures:
- All submissions are moderated before publication — nothing appears on the platform without human review
- We review submissions for authenticity, safety, and appropriateness before approval
- We do not publish content that could endanger individuals, reveal military positions, or compromise operational security of any party
- Submitters' precise locations are not displayed publicly — only approximate regional indicators are shown
- Submissions can be removed at any time upon request by the submitter
- We reserve the right to reject or remove any submission without notice
Casualty & Human Cost Data
Casualty figures presented on this platform are compiled from multiple independent sources and are presented as ranges where figures conflict. Sources include official government statements, international humanitarian organizations, independent human rights groups (such as Hengaw and HRANA), and verified media reports.
Casualty data in active conflicts is inherently uncertain. Figures may be underreported, delayed, or disputed. We present these numbers as "reported" figures, not as independently verified counts. Where sources disagree, we provide the range (e.g., "1,230–2,400+") to reflect the uncertainty.
Helplines & Emergency Information
We have made every reasonable effort to accurately compile emergency helplines, embassy contacts, airline numbers, and hospital information across affected regions. This includes verified contact details for Indian embassies and high commissions in the Middle East.
However, phone numbers and services may change without notice. Always verify critical emergency information through official government and embassy websites. In a life-threatening emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.
Accuracy & Limitations
We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or timeliness of any information presented on this platform. Conflict situations are inherently chaotic and fast-moving — information can become outdated within minutes.
The battlespace map, strike data, and AI-extracted intelligence are provided for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon for personal safety decisions, military planning, or any operational purpose. AI-powered extraction may occasionally produce inaccurate results.
We expressly disclaim all liability for any loss, injury, or damage arising from the use of or reliance on information provided on this platform.
Privacy & Data Collection
WAR.DIRECT collects minimal data:
- We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising
- We do not use third-party analytics services (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel)
- We do not sell, share, or monetize any user data
- IP addresses are used only for rate limiting and vote deduplication, and are stored as one-way hashes — we cannot reverse them to identify you
- Voice submissions include optional approximate geolocation (only if the submitter explicitly grants permission) — this is never shared at precision level
- Browser localStorage is used for theme preferences and settings — this data stays on your device
